Felia has fallen into a deeper depression. Two more miscarriages have pushed her further into depression. She and Sima reside separately within Quesnel. It has been difficult for him to console her and she refuses to be consoled. Remembering what Joraine had done for both Mabel Ward and for his sister Tamara so many years ago, Dmitri asked the Emperor if perhaps this cousine could be persuaded to return to Quesnel and help his son's dowery. The Emperor sent a dispatch to his cousines in Domremy to see if either Joraine or Helena Zyll would come.
Grand Council Chamber
The Emperor had to give an accounting of his troops pursuit of Tekkano and his outlaws. There had been more destruction wrought by them throughout the Empire. There was a call to send troops into Belgica and Kushkumasi to seek them. The Emperor made it known that unless there was probable cause or irrefutable evidence that Belgica or any part of Kushkumasi is in collusion with the outlaws, any move on any soverign on the either or both places would be met with the forces of the Seven Kingdoms. He admitted to some bias but made clear that his position was one of fairness. It set the council buzzing since it was the most declarative that the Seven Kingdoms had been in a while.

Calls-Part 1 2:29 PM EDT edit | delete

Quesnel
In the interim time, The Emperor paid call to Marielena and her family. While Marielena was embarrassed that they happened upon her mother and her aunts and uncles acting like children, The Emperor assured her that it was okay. He did not say, but he wished that his mother and his aunts and uncles would be as companionable with each other as the Gurdinans were. They shared tea which was peppered with a light conversation until Manaba Lonestar returned with Nokomis, her eldest daughter by Vladimir Gurdinan, Galina's brother. Manaba of course knew the Emperor. His mother Ladocia Dare is the sister to James Dare who is the leader in Belgica and known by most as "The Teacher." James' daughter is Bright Morning. Bright Morning's dower Metacomet is the son of Altsoba Lonestar who is the sister of Manaba. In a sense, they are family.
Manaba of course wanted to discuss the sessions taking place with the Grand Council. The Emperor informed him of the latest session, that is, what he could speak on. One of the goals for his delegation was to assist Kushkumasi with being recognized again as the independent nation it was and still is. His uncle Danyo is acting as the delegate for Belgica.

The Emperor visits 3:15 PM EDT edit | delete
Labeled under: General
Quesnel
Marielena receives an impromptu visit from The Emperor. He is there on Grand Council business. He could have sent an envoy but decided to come to see her. His brother Christopher has been left in charge with his sister Sora. Also in his entourage is Firebird, the regent for the Kushkumasi ruler Little Chief. She will represent the kingdom at the Council.
For Marielena and The Emperor, the joyous reunion is underlined with concerned. Grand Council sessions take place often but that a full session would be called is of concern. Representing Belgica will be Alanna, not Bright Morning. It is only to keep the taint of the Denunciate situation out of the dealings with Belgica. He will also have to provide an accounting of the situation with Tekkano and his followers since Seven Kingdoms committed the most soldiers to the effort to bring them to justice and has for all purposes, been in charge of the effort.

The Grand Update-April/May
Quesnel
Though busy, Marielena keeps up a healthy correspondence with the The Emperor. She seems to be a happier person because of it.
Eugenie by contrast is not happy. She has taken to all manner of sewing and knitting. It is often true that there is magic in millinery. The maker infuses every stitch with love and every warp and such with blessings. No such things were infused in the garments that Eugenie put together. She was still suffering from in her pool of despair. Julian wrote to her when he could but she was quite upset with him since he seemingly sided with her father. Now, Eugenie definitely has the Carteret temper. It showed itself quite well throughout the whole ordeal. She also inherited her great-great uncle Gurdinan's penchant for holding onto a grudge. She was inconsolable as she knitted anger into each hose, sewed discord into each square of her quilt. She found a sympathetic shoulder in her brother Pasha and was annoyed by her sister Marielena. Her happiness pointed out the evils of her situation. That Julian was trying to be responsible by exercising some restraint was lost on her.
Mabel Ward of late took a turn for the better. No one could say exactly why. Elena Bordana would say that it was being surrounded by the family. There is some truth in this. Solange was a more attentive daughter of late and so pleased both her mother Mabel and her father Sasha. Mabel could sit up almost unaided and wanted nothing more than to as much time outside as she could. Nini was the one who helped make that happen.

Richmond's coup is now complete as to Caledonia. He took both Mary's seat and Jane's innocence and deposited them both deep in the countryside far away from anywhere. Surprisingly, both survived and are trying to get back home.
Seven Kingdoms
The Emperor decides to sort out the situation of Mirabelle and Duke Chao by bringing them together. He has noticed his friend's affection towards her. He also knows that they have spent favorable time together.
In the garden, when his parents first met, the two realize that the person that they have in common had set them up. Duke Chao finally has the courage to tell Mirabelle of his long held feelings for her. Mirabelle for her part is confused by everything. Chao is quick to tell her that if she set her cap for The Emperor that, perhaps she should look elsewhere. Mirabelle asked if he were interested in the "Kushkumasi" woman. He said no, though there may have been a time in the past and but for her constancy to the mate she lost, he would have made his case to her. No, Chao affirmed, it is the outlander from Valhalla. "The commoner," asked Mirabelle in surprise. "She is not a commoner. Her mother is the Grand Duchess of Quesnel. The family was and is of the gentry though with such Matches as were made by her mother, she is now of the grandee class." Chao asked her if she were fond of the Emperor. Mirabelle replied that she could not say that she was deeply in love with him but she regarded him deeply and that at her age she felt that they would be a good Match. He asked her if there were any others to consider. She mentioned that her parents encouraged her in this pursuit since he did seem to favor her. Chao reminded her that her father and mother did not make life easy for The Emperor's mother. Perhaps it would be best to consider another option. They talked for a bit and she decided that she might wish to continue to spend time with Duke Chao and maintain her friendship with the Emperor.

The Emperor decides to visit Marielena again and combine it with a visit to his cousin the Duke at Faith and Freedom. He takes a small contingent with him and asks his sister Sora to watch over things with Koshain. The Emperor's mother returns from her visit to Kushkumasi and finds out that her son has gone to Valhalla. She leaves to follow him. Quesnel, Valhalla The Emperor pays an unexpected visit to the Gurdinan household. With the timing that all Dares seem to have, he came as Charles Robertson came to collect Tatiana and Gallio to take them to Fairhill. The Emperor took tea with the family and deftly deflected Charles' attempts to lower Marielena in his eyes. The Emperor also reminded Charles that he spent a wild youth serving on a ship along side of his mother, The Dowager Empress and Gallio's namesake and as he was told, actually benefited from the association. His people accept his mother as a member of the royal house for all that she is an outsider. The Emperor took Marielena to dinner in the rooms that he took for this occasion.

Charles Donaugh caught Isabella and Beathan at his place. While he did not catch them in a state of undress, it did look as if they either were to be intimate or had been intimate. An argument ensues. Charles does not like Beathan because he sees through Charles' hypocrisy. Beathan also knows of the 'wanderings' that Charles has partaken in. Charles swears to ruin Beathan in the eyes of their parents. Beathan dares him to. Charles tries to force Isabella to go home with him, but she refuses. Beathan encourages her to return with her brother. The next morning, Isabella is called in to speak with her parents. Charles has told them and she confesses to her nightly wanderings to Beathan's cottage. Both parents are shocked to say the least. After much to and fro, Isabella informed her father that she would leave the family and be with him. Emily again calms the situation and points out as did Isabella that Beathan did intend to Strike the Match, so they need not worry about her reputation. Emmeline and the younger siblings were eavesdropping. Charles came by and she pushed him into an empty hallway. She called him a rat for what he did to Isabella and then she reminded him of his own behaviour which was far more damaging to the family reputation than Isabella's ever could be. She also told him that Isabella gave him up to their parents and that she told about his own visits to the Druid village. The Infare is still on and Isabella promised not to wander at night.

George and Isabella 11:26 AM EST edit | delete
Labeled under:
Tara
Isabella stayed up watching the rain come down. She was joined by her eldest brother George. Since their age difference was quite significant, they were not terribly close to each other. George was the one who would inheirit everything. He also was the apple of their mother's eye-along with the reckless Edward. In recent years, his health had been up and down. Of more importance, he had not struck a match yet and produced grandchildren. While the fact that Hamish Donaugh had 22 potential heirs was comforting, still it made things simple if the most responsible of the male children set up his house and prepared himself to take over everything. George handled the running of things along with their father and William, the next eldest and also one of the most useless. While not close to George, Isabella respected him. William was vacilating and weak-willed. He worried about appearances and it was safe to say that if one were on fire, he would either run around like a hen with her head cut off or stand holding the water while deciding if it was in his best interest to put the fire out. George engaged Isabella in conversation. He heard of what had transpired earlier in the week. He did point out that she promised not to go to the cottage only, not that she would not go out at night or that Weston-Pepperell would not come there. She affirmed this but said that she saw no reason to make the situation worse by playing semantical games with their father when in a short time, she would be able to spend as much time with Beathan Weston-Pepperell as she wished. George agreed and was pleased but not surprised by her answer. He indicated that he thought that she had good sense and that she was not as selfish as their brother Charles made her out to be.

Nothing to tell, though it seems that there could be more stories with more arcs and actions. Perhaps it could be that we spend different weeks with different families or locales. I am really liking the Beathan and Isabella thing, which, due to the Hanover connections, can incorporate the gang in Edenton and the gang in Balmorwyn. Not to mention, the connections to Vivianna's people and the ladies from Greenwalls.
So, that it how we are going to proceed for a bit, by focusing on specific stories and locales biweekly.

Beathan visits Isabella Donaugh and tells her about the plans for their life together while they view the latest comet to enter the orbit. He tells her that he has purchased a flat in Alexandria. It is near the area where the astronomers all go out to view the stars. He described the school that she could go to there for astronomy. She asks if they would be able to return to Tara to visit the family and the Druids. He assures her that they would. The next day, Beathan arrives at the Donaugh home. He is recieved by the parents and he asks for Isabella's hand. Her father is not pleased. He knows of the Westons and of the Pepperells and he does not want the association. Beathan points out that as scandalous as members of his family may seem, the Lordship need only to recall his own son Edward and her Ladyship's family and remember that those in glass houses should not throw stones. The Pepperell bluntness only incensed him and Lady Emily intervened as peacemaker.
Isabella listened in the other room in silence. She was summoned by her mother who put the question to her. Isabella stated that at Beathan's side was where she wanted to be. Lord Donaugh stated that if she went through with it, they could expect no help from him. They stated that they understood. He would not host the Infare, which shocked Emily and Isabella but a little. Both said they understood. Lady Emily asked for sometime alone with Lord Donaugh. Beathan took his leave and said that he would return the next day for the answer. Isabella went upstairs.
Once alone, Lady Emily recalled to him the story of her own elder sister who knew her mind and chose someone that their father did not approve of because he saw the gentleman as a social climber. He was proven wrong by the fact that Caroline and the gentleman to this moment remain happily together and are not living in misery but living quite well. One son is a member of the Council along with the father. If anything, as young Weston-Pepperell gently pointed out, they should have been pleased that the man she freely calls "brother" did not leave after the awful scandal that took place with their younger sister.
Emily spoke to Lord Donaugh for a long time. He finally relented, claiming that he adored Isabella and wanted the best for her, especially since she was very shy and quiet. Lord Donaugh himself delivered the good news to Isabella who waited in an anxious silence. She knew that it was her mother that they had to reach and once she was an ally, then she would manage their father because he at least acknowledged that when it came to the children, especially the girls, she was his superior in this area. She was pleased that it all worked.
Beathan could not wait and came later that night. Isabella told him the news. She told him that her father would allow them to have the Infare there.
Beathan returned the next day and was received by Isabella's parents. The other siblings crowded around the door to listen since the news had gotten to them. Lord Donaugh gave his blessing and reminded Beathan of the treasure that he was receiving. The Infare is to be small as they desired it and take place in one Sennight also as they desired it. Beathan was now expected to take dinner with them regularly. After spending the day with the Donaughs. Beathan went home and wrote to his family. His brother Quillan returned home from his sojourn in Viviana's village and upon hearing the news, congratulated his brother. He also began to imagine the adventures the three of them would have together after they were settled in Alexandria.
Quesnel
Charles Robertson stopped by and caught Robert and Galina in an almost intimate moment. He accused Galina of being a bad mother and being responsible for turning his children against him, especially Eugenie. Robert leapt to her defense and to his daughter's defense since Charles attacked her character also. Galina sent Robert out to meet Marielena. Galina then set him Charles straight on the role he played in the awful relations that he had with his own children. She conceded that Eugenie was moving too fast with her Infare and was doing it to spite her father. She said that she would speak to her about it. She also told him to stop pressuring the other children. She also counseled him to look at their son Thomas with open eyes and begin with sorting him out first. She also reminded him of his own youth and what he did that angered his father and how he mended the relationship by learning maturity. While there was a little back and forth, Charles conceded to Galina's position and left to pay call to his aunt.
Eugenie returned home and Galina took her aside. She saw that Eugenie was upset. Eugenie told her that Julian had spoken to her earlier. They had a fight. He wanted to wait. He wanted her to mend the relationship with her father. He also felt that she was rushing into this. Galina listened to all of it, then told her that she agreed much to Eugenie's dismay. They went back and forth but she at least got her to see that waiting a bit might be better.
Pasha came home not long after his sister. Galina related everything to him. She also told him that he must let her sort out their father and the other children. She wanted him to build his own family. She hinted at grandchildren. Pasha assured his mother that he would not worry about her and the others so much.
Seven Kingdoms
More of The Emperor's siblings come to visit-Shasta, Alan and Tycho. All three now know of their brother's new adventure and are quick to advise him. Shasta recommends that he send Marielena a beautiful necklace in the style the West Kingdom. Shasta is one of the The Emperor's favorite little sisters. She is full of energy and seees things quite clearly. Their mother contemplates having the younger siblings remove to the Seven Kingdoms on a more permanent basis.
