Mary is still under house arrest by Richmond as is her Cousine Jane. She was able to get a note out of her prison to her mother who resides in but she sits in a state of not knowing if she is successful.

Edward continues to write to Jane but is unaware of the situation. He ha received no response from her and he grows anxious.
